According
to the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada, “The
integration of midwifery into the obstetrical health-care team is
fostering excellence in maternity care for Canadian women and their
families.”
Midwives offer women excellent
maternity care, and enhance our medical system by allowing doctors and
nurses to focus on health issues related to abnormal states of the body.
In some countries such as Scandinavia, the Netherlands, and New Zealand
at least 70% of maternity care is provided
by midwives. In Germany all women have a midwife for their maternity
care, and a midwife is present even if a doctor is needed.
