Vision
In order to allow informed choice
for all women in the Yukon regarding their pregnancy, birth, and
post-partum care, we envision:
-
women having midwifery services
fully funded by the Yukon government
-
women having the choice of a
midwife as primary care provider
-
women having the choice of a
hospital, birth center, or home birth
-
women having access through their
midwife to blood work, ultrasounds, and other standard tests in
pregnancy
-
women being able to give birth in
the communities without restrictions on the distance from the hospital
-
women receiving continuity of care
during pregnancy, birth, and the post-partum (that is, a woman could
depend on a midwife to stay with her if she required an intervention
by an obstetrician, such as a C-section, and the midwife would act as
an advocate for the woman and care for the baby and mother after
birth).
